A Better way to live

Arnfried Klein-Werner sent me an email today and it started with the following:

"Become intentional about finding good in others. The minute you meet a person, find something to compliment them about. Perhaps their name, their smile, their clothes or something else about their appearance. When you see colleagues, first have something positive to say to them before anything else is said. Try to compliment, encourage or praise everyone as the first thing you say (after the greeting, of course). Especially with your spouse or children. You will benefit by the way others start treating you with kindness and respect."

Sometimes the simplest of things can make a massive difference. We are all I am sure aware of the so-called Butterfly-effect where just the simple beat of a butterfly's wings can turn the world upside down. How proven or true this is I a not so sure but it does kind of make sense.

Today is Monday. Often the day where most arguments happen and pretty much always the day when a person feels at their most grumpy. Just having someone say something complimentary can change the course of the entire week. I have done just that today and it's made a huge difference. Somethings have said or done include:

1. Comment on how awesome a colleague's blog was in a sales meeting
2. Congratulate a colleague personally for a job well done
3. Taking note of the receptionists new hair - yes us men can do it!

These 3 things have a made a difference in the life of 3 people and guess what they return the favour. The favour is not returned instantly but within the next few days it will be - watch this space!

So here is a challenge for today. How literally can you take Arnfried's statement? Go ahead and let me know!
